One week's French immersion
with a French Family.
Convent of the Minimes in Decize was originally in 1026 a Benedictine priory, the Priory Saint Peter of Decize in 1559
it was largely destroyed by a fire that ravaged the city.
The Convent of Minimes in Decize was bought in 1621 by the monks Minimes and important work was done in 1629.
Do you need more practise or confidence with your French?
Then, I cannot recommend enough this week-long trip to France immersed in family life and language, together with visits to interesting and scenic places. As always, Gaetane's organisation of the trip is impeccable, so you will not be disappointed.
My private and beautifully decorated bedroom in Gaetane's mum's house was my base for the week. I had the opportunity to speak French with Gaetane, Sima (my fellow student), Gaetane's mum and sister and other friends of the family. With each short conversation, my confidence grew and grew and throughout the week my vocabulary increased. It was reassuring to know that Gaetane was there listening and ready to help where required.
We made daily visits to places of interest, including the local market, a disused coal mine, Sancerre with wine tasting, and one of the most beautiful villages in France with its wonderful gardens and impressive castle. We also visited two lakes, walked across their dams and took a boat trip on one of them. I must not forget the very good restaurants that Gaetane had chosen for our lunches!
This is an experience that should not be missed!
Thanks again Gaetane.
If you want to have a wonderful experience in the heart of France, complete with delicious French food and wine, beautiful scenery of mountains, lakes, gardens and old hill top villages, visits to a reconstructed coal mine and museum, wine tasting, a boat trip on a lake, and all this, while living with a warm and welcoming French family – who don’t speak any English thus forcing you to practice your French, then you must join Gaetane when she next organises one of her trips to Bourgogne.
Well recommended! You’ll have a wonderful time AND improve your French.
Museum of the Machine Mine Its operations was controlled after 1865 by the company Schneider et Cie, and led to the drilling of mine shafts to a depth of 700 metres the construction of several workers' cities and the recruitment of thousands of "gueule noire". At the time of the closing of the last well in 1974, many miners wanted to keep the memory of their profession by creating an educational place open since 1983.
Church Saint-Aré at Decize. The building was classified as a historical monument in 1875 and registered in 1991
Sima and Adrian experienced it in July 2018
The charming village of Apremont-sur-Allier is located close to the confluence of the Loire and Allier rivers.
The Morvan is a mountainous massif.
At its heart nowadays is the protected area of the Parc naturel régional du Morvan. Its main town is Château-Chinon on the D978 between Nevers and Autun.
Several of its valleys have been dammed to form reservoirs. The large fresh water lakes in the north of this National Park are perfect for hiking around or for water sports.
The best way to practise your spoken French.
Try a week's immersion with a French family, where only French is spoken every single day. You will visit different places, eat in typical French restaurants and discover beautiful rural attractions such as Decize, Sancerre and Le Morvan… I'll be with you to encourage and give support during this French experience week.
Apremont sur Allier. One of the “most beautiful villages in France” (an official distinction), and at its heart, the Château and its Parc Floral are a focal point of the region.
Sancerre is a medieval hilltop town, commune and canton in the Cher department of central France overlooking the Loire River. It is noted for its wine.
